It was mid-March and I was scrolling through my news feed on Facebook when I saw that a friend had posted about a new Tesla showroom that was soon to open, here in London, Ontario, Canada. I was quite surprised by this and I did a little Googling to learn more. I found out that it was true. In a few months a huge service and showroom was scheduled to open on Wonderland Road South. I also learned that in December of 2024 a Tesla showroom opened in the Masonville Mall.
Then... I commented on my friend's post "Hey! Wanna protest?"
And this is how it all began!
My friend replied, "Yes!" and soon we were planning a meeting to discuss ideas and come up with some plans. There were seven people at this first meeting and after two hours we had the beginning of several ideas!
We discussed the fact that protesting at Masonville Mall would be challenging as it is illegal to protest inside a Mall.
We discussed ideas for creating an image... wanting to look like an organized group. We talked about what colour clothes to wear... what colour signs to make. What will be the messaging on the signs.
We discussed how to spread the word about our actions and how to spread the word about encouraging people to boycott these dealerships.
Soon we had three different plans of action...
