Nearing the end of Devon's Grade 4 school year, his music teacher thought that it would be fun to get the students learning how to create their own music for use in videos. Devon's musical creation really blew my mind! It was very creative and the progressive changes in moods within his 'song' were masterfully composed. At one point in his 'song' I had counted nine different overlays of musical beats and rifts... and they all worked together! I guess that our many conversations about music and Rock bands has paid off!!!! Ha! Ha!
The next part of the online school project (because the schools in Ontario were closed due to the outbreaks of Covid19) was to find a segment of a movie or TV show or any other kind of visual that worked well with the students music.
I explained to Devon that his teacher was not really approaching this project in the proper way. We talked about the many videos that we had made together and how we had created them. I explained how we had started with the music and how we had placed the visuals into the video based on how well they fit in with the music. I continued by saying that if the project is supposed to result in his music fitting with a premade visual element that the teacher should have explained this from the beginning and that the Devon should have started with a visual element and then he could have created his music to evolve with the visual.
But that's not how it worked out... so we had to adapt!
It could have taken hours of work to look at many videos to find a scene where Devon's music would have complimented the existing video... so we didn't do that! Instead, we found a very cool video on Youtube that was a very creative psychedelic visual and I used my phone to record it. Then we used my video making equipment and put the two elements together. By editing the visual elements, we were able to make the visuals line up with beats within the music. In less than 40 minutes, the editing was complete and the video was ready to showcase on my Youtube channel!
The name for this video was my idea. I explained to Devon how a person referred to as a 'zealot' is someone who is very fanatical, extreme, radical and passionate and since this video encompasses all of these traits that it would be fun to evolve the word 'zealot' into a brand new word of our own making... thus... zealotismal!!!!
Please enjoy...
