Mayoral Candidate Reaching Our With Art

(Mr. Jim, City hall hopeful taps into
his creative side to speak to the people)

The race for mayor involves a crowded field, so it’s important to stand out.  And one candidate is taking an unusual approach.
Jim Kogelheide, dad, bus driver and artist, is reaching out to the people with his creative side.  He’s talking to people via his art.
“I can’t afford plastic signs to pollute our landscape, but what I can do is set up an art exhibition that can tour London around our local libraries,” said Kogelheide.
“Art is a reflection of a person’s soul, and what better way to get to know a candidate than to have a glimpse of their soul?”
Better known to the kids on his school bus as ‘Mr.Jim’ Kogelheide, 43, also works weekends on paratransit buses, taking people with mobility problems to where they need to go.
He’s been creating art for 18 years, with a focus on the environment and peace movements.  “I’m an artist, and my artwork is a reflection of my beliefs about sustainability, sharing ideas to allow people to appreciate Nature a bit more profoundly and to realize that we have a responsibility as well, to preserve our natural habitat.  We have to realize that man and nature don’t co-exist harmoniously.”
That thinking is also the basis of his political philosophy.  Kogelheide calls it ‘green urbanism’ saying it’s about creating communities and lifestyles that suit humans but are also kind to the environment.
